Maximum: 60 people

Methods Group: Applicability and Recommendations Methods Group

Duration: 09:30-15:30

Target audience: Methods network members or members to be,authors, editors, and entity and Centre staff

Type of workshop: Training and capacity building workshop

Objectives: To learn how to create a 'Summary of Findings' (SoF) table, about the GRADE approach, and use GRADE pro with specific guidance for editors, Cochrane Centres and entity staff.

Description: SoF tables are an important addition to Cochrane reviews. SoFs summarise the main findings of a review and ensure that the quality of a body of evidence is considered with the magnitude of the effects. While there is a predetermined process for creating SoFs, this process has different implications for different editorial staff. SoF training has been identified as a key effort by the Cochrane Training Working Group and Coeds-Methods Working Group (now MARS). This workshop is divided into four sections involving plenary sessions and hands-on group work led by workshop trainers. Groups will be divided according to the participants' roles: editors, Managing Editors, Centre staff and other entity staff. 1) General overview of SoFs: discuss purpose, user testing, format and components. 2) Summarise and grade evidence. The GRADE approach includes information from Risk of Bias tables, and evaluating directness, heterogeneity, precision, publication bias and other factors. 3) GRADEpro: introduce the software used to create SoFs.

Facilitators: Holger Schunemann, Jan Brozek, Nancy Santesso. Additional speakers and panel members will be notified at a later date.
